To Watch or Not To Watch

Lately, our kids are really into Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Last night they asked if we could watch an episode on Sunday. We usually don't watch any TV on Sunday, so this was a question that required some good family discussion. The boys were convinced that because this show does so much good for people in need, it was perfectly appropriate for the Sabbath. Graci, on the other hand, had a concern. In her cute, accented, innocent way, she said, "I don't know if we should watch it on Sunday cuz lots of times they say, "Oh my...(hesitates)...um...backwards dog!" Way to go, Grace:) Always looking out for us.

BTW, we never did make a final decision. With all of the clean up from dinner and the bedtime rituals we just kind of ran out of time.

  1. Growing up, we weren't allowed to watch TV on Sundays either, but when Extreme Makeover: Home Edition came on, that became the one show we could watch together as a family on Sunday nights =]

  2. we are very careful about that too. our Sabbath is saturday but i am familiar with the situation of having to weigh those kinds of things as it is the same type of issue. it's so easy for one thing to lead to another and then next thing you know, Sabbath is feeling like a regular day instead of a special day of worship and spending time with God as a family. all the best to you as you navigate this area! :)

  3. I think when they build YOUR home, it would definitely be okay to watch it on Sunday. ;-) (BTW...Have you sent in your application yet?!) I can't think of a better family to be a recipient.

When we had a TV that was the one and only Sunday show we watched because it was so inspiring. It is a hard decision, though. I wish we could watch it again.

  4. DVR it and watch it a different night (or if you are us, VCR it)?

I love that show. It is really inspiring and almost guaranteed to make me cry. :)

  5. I have never met you but have been following your blog for some time now. I truly admire your entire family and the strength you pull from each other. The kiddo's are amazing to watch and hear about the accomplishments made. We all know that struggles happen, your hearts are so open to the struggles, abilities and God-abilities that the kids have. I don't call them disabilities, because God doesn't waste a hurt/tear/infraction or physical issue of anykind. He uses each individual to touch the lives of those around them as well as around the world. Sophie, you amaze me what you do with your little feet. God makes all things possible and you are proving to the world that you CAN do all things through HIM... keep up the great work and the beautiful smiles throughtout the whole family. May you be richly blessed.

  6. I like the show too, but I also agree with Gracie. That's a tough one.

  7. Way to go Grace!!! That girl is really funny!!! So, how many people out there like me think that the Green family should be nominated for Extreme Makeover?!!! How do we nominate them? Maybe we would be more successful in mass. . .
