We love to watch Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. We found out yesterday that they just started building a home 15 minutes from us! So of course we had to go check it out. It's really an amazing undertaking. In addition to the property they are building on, they require acres of extra space for their equipment and volunteer tents and who knows what else. We've gone up twice so far, once in the day and once at night. At night they have dozens of generators powering huge lights so they can go at it 24/7. It's really fascinating.
Today we took the kids up to see. It is Xander's favorite show, and we were hoping he might be able to give a high 5 to Ty Pennington. No such luck today, but we may try again later. While we were there, we saw many of the volunteers in the blue shirts and white hard hats. One of these volunteers walked by us, then stopped and said: "I know you guys! I read your blog." So, I guess we've now had our 15 minutes of fame. It really was a neat experience to talk to someone we've never met, but who has been touched by our children and their stories.
So here's a shout out to Andrea from Provo. Way to help out by volunteering for this great family and their new home. And thanks for stopping to say hello:)
Jer

Hi Jer and Christi!! It was so fantastic to meet you guys last night!! That really made my week!! You're children are all beautiful and it really was an honor to meet them all (well, almost all =] ) and to get to say hi to them. I absolutely love reading your blog and am so glad I don't feel like I don't "know" you guys now =] Thank you for blogging so I could have the opportunity to meet you guys!
ReplyDeleteChristi, my photography website is: capturingjoyphotos.com
I would love to take family portraits for you guys, I think it would be so fun!
It was great to see you guys again today =] (Though I missed you Christi!) Thank you for letting me love on Lexi for a few minutes. She is so precious and I enjoyed it so much! She is such a fun loving girl and I can only imagine how much she is flourishing in your family! It truly was a highlight for me to be able to interact with her, even just for a brief few minutes! I am so glad you guys came back and were able to see Paige =] I was waiting and waiting and hoping Ty would come out so that I could get a picture of him for Xander, but I was told he had locked himself in the basement =] Thanks again for allowing me to meet your family and interact with them even just for a short moment. You are truly an inspiration to me!
ReplyDeleteHey Jer and Christi,
ReplyDeleteI didn't mention it before, but I nanny for a little girl with down syndrome and her brother. When she was about 18 months her parents started a foundation called United Angels Foundation and it dawned on me yesterday that I should let you guys know about the organization! They strive to bring parents and families of children with special needs together! It is an amazing organization and they have some great activities and events throughout the year (including a Halloween party, Christmas party [over 500 people attended last year!] and swim parties through the summer!) I wanted to let you guys know about the organization in case you were interested in meeting other families in Utah/SLC county who have children with special needs. You can check them out (and join if you are interested) online at: unitedangelsfoundation.org They have two events coming up in July: Next Wednesday they are having picnic playdate at Rock Canyon Park in Provo and then on July 30th they are having a swim party (not sure where yet). They are also on Facebook (just search for United Angels Foundation) Just wanted to let you know if you hadn't heard about them =]
